Description of my work:
Bright tropical colors and whimsical designs give each of my pieces its own personality. My work is hand-built from low fire clay and hand painted with underglazes. Fish and fish themes are my passion. Some fish are yardsticks and some are fishbowls or pot stickers. I consider all of my work to be functional to make people smile, chuckle and swim more easily through life even if it’s just for a moment.
Training:
Lots of playing in the dirt and making mud-pies. I began playing with clay when my son started preschool. My need for adult companionship and the urging of a friend, lead me to register for some classes at the Roswell Parks and Recreation Department. After playing around with different types of clay and a variety of techniques, I found that fish shapes continued to be my predominant subject matter. Fish designs just seemed to flow out of my hands with no apparent conscious thought. Consequently, I chose to listen to the message from the universe and continue producing fish themes. Now, ten years later, I also have a draw towards angels and I’m beginning to develop their designs.
